I guess I shouldn't of waited until after the Central Michigan game to start this blog, I really wanted to highlight the positives of this year. From the grand opening of the Schue, running over Navy, and taking Nebraska to it's Cornhusker limits, this year has had alot of up's and downs. Almost too much for a fan to handle, talk about stress! I guess that all changed this past Saturday, October 6th.
If the Nebraska game was a gut check, well this game was a roundhouse kick from Chuck Norris. Talk about a slap in the face! The 95 degree turf wasn't the only thing on fire Saturday-cue Dan Lefevour. The sophomore QB went 30 for 38, racked up 360 yards, and 5 touchdowns. Not to mention he ran for 146 yards and 1 TD. Count 'em, that is 6 TOUCHDOWNS! Thats more fingers then you have on one hand. The Chippewas are now undefeated in MAC play and our Cardinals dropped to 2-2. The final score was 58-38, the combined 96 points along with the 1027 combined yards are new stadium records.
The Cardinals amassed 369 total yards, with 204 coming on the arm of Nate Davis. Davis couldn't find his target, with alot of his passes overthrown. On one particular play, Davis took the pitch-back from Love and overthrew his intended target, TE Darius Hill, by a solid two feet. The experts say it is always better to overthow your receivers compared to underthrowing them, but this is becoming a consistent problem and needs to be corrected immediately.
Congrats to WR Dante Love who set a new school record with a total of 266 return yards and PK Jake Hogue who connected on all 6 of kicks, including a 26 yd field goal.
I guess it is now obvious how much this team misses RB MiQuale Lewis. Sure, Franks Edmonds and Koreen Burch had great games against the Bulls, but that was against a garbage team in Buffalo. One thing I noticed during this week's game was how the two running backs, in particular Burch, just ran. They weren't patient and didn't allow the holes to open up for them. They had no field vision and I guess this can be attributed to the fact that the two are both freshman and unexperienced.
I still believe this BSU squad is a good team and they'll have a chance to iron out the inconsistencies against the Div. 1-AA Western Kentucky Hill Toppers. Hopefully the Cards won't dampen the Homecoming week spirit and win the game. Ball State has lost the last three Homecoming games.
Kickoff is on Saturday at 2 p.m. Make sure you go out and support the Cardinals!
